FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Parents
Last weekend more than 200 girls, coaches and teachers travelled to East London for the Collegiate/Clarendon Derby Day and a great time was had by all. The netball season ended on a high note with Collegiate 18A team beating Clarendon in an exciting game. This Saturday we will play the last game of the Hockey season when we meet Riebeek at home. Please support us. The Matrics have completed their three languages’ oral moderation sessions and next week sees the start of the Matric Trial Exams. We wish them and their parents well. The strike by Teachers’ Unions has thus far not had an unduly adverse affect on teaching and learning, and we hope that the matter will soon be resolved.
Mrs F R Biggs

INTER-HOUSE PLAY FESTIVAL
On Wednesday the 11 August, the annual Inter-House Play Festival was held in the Stevenson Hall, when once again the houses battled for thespian supremacy. We were privileged to have Mr Andre Lemmer, who is well known in theatre and education, as our adjudicator. Congratulations to all who took part, and special accolades to the winners of the awards: Best Actress: Hildegarde Malan (B2) - for her superbly dry and devious Butler in Queen Alexandra’s play.
Best Supporting Role: Jessica Wellmann (E3) - for her wayout, groovy and REAL, Moonshot in Queen Elizabeth’s play.
Best Directors: Lucille Moleko (E3) and Vishana Makan (E5) of Queen Victoria’s play.
Best Play: Queen Elizabeth’s play, The Apple, an obscure look at art, which was brilliantly portrayed by all the actors. (see below)

The Collegiate Chat is a fortnightly letter which aims to keep you informed on the latest happenings in the school. We do not include achievements of girls in non-school related activities in the Chat as the We are Proud of... section on our website is available for this purpose. Please note that parents may submit the achievements of their daughters to be considered for inclusion on this web-page to the following address: jenee@cghs.co.za.

The SCA recently took up a collection to raise funds towards the HIV/Aids vegetable garden project run at Charles Duna Primary School. Every HIV positive child in Charles Duna is allocated a small piece of ground on the school property and the family of each child is expected to plant, tend and grow vegetables to take home and cook to keep their child in good health. This is a wonderful school initiative and we are excited to be delivering 80 packets of spinach, tomato and bean seeds to them in the next week. If you would still like to contribute to this project, please contact Miss van Rooyen at the school as soon as possible.

Collegiate’s SCA group has also undertaken a “Pillow Drive” to assist the Elizabeth Donkin Hospital. This hospital’s funding was recently dropped from R60 000 to R6 000 by the Health Department and they are struggling to keep their heads above water. One of their needs is for bedding, especially pillows, for the 205 patients at the hospital. The SCA started a project to swop a pillow for a doughnut and we have literally raised hundreds of pillows in these two weeks! God is good and we are currently storing and packaging these pillows (of various shapes, sizes, colours and textures!) in preparation for a visit to the hospital to hand these over. Thank you so much to all who “dug deeply” and brought money or pillows and various other odds and ends such as blankets, curtains and towels for our collection. Once again, if you would still like to contribute to this collection in any way, please contact Miss van Rooyen as soon as possible and be part of an initiative to make the lives of others a little more bearable in hard times.
