INTER-HOUSE PLAY FESTIVAL - 2011

The Inter-house Play Festival was held on Tuesday the 10th of May.  The standard was exceptionally high this year, and this left the adjudicator, Mr Pieter Rademeyer of Grey High School, with the unenviable task of finding the winners of the various categories.

Queen Victoria house took on a chilling and demanding play about black magic in the Victorian era and gave a remarkable performance which left the audience with goose-bumps.

Queen Mary house showed us that even Santa Claus is human and that despite the many reindeer problems and annoying elves, he only wants a sleigh with GPS.  This was rather hilarious.

Queen Elizabeth house had us laughing knowingly at the misconceptions overseas visitors have of our country and the wild animals in our game parks.

Queen Alexandra house entertained us with a delightful play of a play within a play, where the play about the characters’ domestic problems upstages the actual play that they are rehearsing. At the end of the evening, the following very well-deserved awards were made:

Best Supporting Actress: Zimbini Poti – Queen Elizabeth
Best Actress:  Amy Annear – Queen Alexandra
Best Director: Khanyisa Nogaya – Queen Alexandra
Best Play:“Curses, Foiled Again!” Queen Alexandra.

Congratulations to all the actresses, back stage and technical crews and directors for providing a highly entertaining evening.

EASTERN CAPE INTER-SCHOOLS’ DEBATING TOURNAMENT
Last weekend Abigail Butcher, Michelle Zondagh and Saadiyah Mayet travelled to Grahamstown to take part in the EASTERN CAPE INTER-SCHOOLS’ DEBATING TOURNAMENT. The team performed exceptionally well and made it to the semi-finals in top position. Unfortunately, Graeme College got the upper-hand and our girls  did not make it to the final debate. However, both Abigail Butcher and Saadiyah Mayet were then selected to form part of the team which will represent the Eastern Cape at the National Inter-Schools’ Debating Tournament scheduled to take place in October.  In addition, Abigail Butcher was named the Best Speaker of the tournament, ranking  first out of 78 speakers. Well done, Ladies.
