| FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK |
|
Dear Parents
It is hard to believe that we are half way through the year.Looking back over the past six months a good deal has been accomplished. The new perimeter fence is almost complete. The new entrance gate is working well and the off road parking has helped to alleviate congestion at peak times. Should you wish to sponsor a pillar there are still a number available.Every day when I come to School I realize how fortunate we are to work in such beautiful surroundings and the recent rain has made such a difference to our gardens. I would like to remind you of the report meeting on the first day of next term. Here you will have the opportunity of meeting with Mrs Bagshaw, the new Principal, and your daughter’s subject teachers. We wish all those girls who are playing sport for various provincial sporting codes during the holidays the best of luck for their matches. We are particularly proud of Abigail Butcher, who has been elected Junior Mayor of the Junior City Council for 2011/2012 Next term is going to be a very busy term. We end off the first week with our Christmas Cheer Fund Charity bazaar and would like as many parents as possible to support us. At the end of July approximately 400 girls and coaches will be off to the Oranje Meisieskool for a Derby weekend.Should you wish to diarise upcoming events please consult your daughter’s diary and the website. Please try to support as many School functions as possible. The Staff and I wish you and your daughter a happy and restful holiday.

On Tuesday evening Abigail Butcher, Collegiate’s Grade 11 representative on the Junior City Council, delivered a powerfully convincing campaign speech. This has earned her the position of Port Elizabeth’s Junior Mayor for the 2011-2012 term of office. We wish her well and have every confidence in her ability to lead the Junior city council.

If it seems quite some time since we said farewell to Miss Pam Cameron Ellis who had been the Principal of the school since 1982, it is because it was, in fact, in December 2009! For the past 18 months, Mrs Faith Biggs has been acting as Principal while the lengthy process of appointing Miss Ellis’s successor was underway. Last week the Staff and Governing Body honoured Mrs Biggs for all she has done for Collegiate in her role as Acting-Principal. She has ensured that the Collegiate ship has kept sailing in the right direction and we thank her for all her hard work.Mrs Melita Bagshaw will take over at the wheel from the beginning of next month. The following is a message from her for all involved with Collegiate: Dear Collegiate Community It is with great anticipation and excitement that I embark on my new role as Principal of Collegiate Girls’ High School. I am grateful for the trust that the Selection Committee and the Governing Body have placed in me and I commit myself to the ethos and spirit of Collegiate. I will serve the school and the community to the best of my ability and endeavour to take it to even greater heights. I wish to thank the Governing Body Executive for making my transition as smooth as possible and for assisting me in every possible way. My thanks also go to Mrs Biggs who has been extremely helpful and supportive. Every person whom I have met has been welcoming and kind. This embodies the character of PE and I hope to become a part of that very soon. My best wishes go to all of you for the holidays and I look forward to meeting all the staff, girls, parents and Old Girls of Collegiate in July 2011.
Warm regards Melita Bagshaw |
Jessica Liss travelled to Europe recently as a member of the South African Senior Swimming Team to compete against top-ranked swimmers from around the world in a series of galas held in Barcelona, Cannes and Monaco. We are proud to report that she did well and made four finals (top eight) and finished fourth in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley race. Congratulations, Jessica. While in Monaco Jessica attended a function hosted by Prince Albert and Charlene Whittstock and was introduced to them. This was indeed a fitting prize for someone who has done so well in her chosen sport. |
