SALE OF TICKETS FOR COLLEGIATE CAROLS

Tickets for Collegiate Carols will be on sale from Monday 8 November between 12h30 - 14h30. These tickets will be sold from the Admin Assistant’s office situated next door to the Bursar’s office.

Selling these tickets ourselves is a huge financial saving so we ask that parents be patient when purchasing their Carols tickets. The Community Chest will benefit more this way.

2009 Collegiate Christmas Carols CD are on sale at both the High School and Junior School at R25 each.

All members will receive a reminder, so please indicate if you are able to bring eats and/or attendance prizes.

See you there!

WORLD CLASS COACHING

We are indeed fortunate to have Mrs Moira Norden and Mrs Adrienne Wilson as our Synchronised and Diving coaches respectively. They are both leaders in their fields as they have recently returned from The Common Wealth Games where they officiated as judges in their individual sporting codes. Mrs Norden was a judge for Synchronised Swimming while Mrs Wilson filled the same position at the side of the Diving pool. Congratulations to both of them.

PICNIC CONCERT

The Collegiate Concert Band will be joining the Clarendon Park band in performing at a concert on Thursday 11 November from 6.30pm to 8pm in the Clarendon Park school hall. Guests must bring their own chairs and may bring along their picnic hamper. All are welcome.

WATERPOLO

The 1st and u16A water polo teams travelled to East London for the annual Clarendon Centennial Stayers Tournament.  The u16As did well to finish first in their pool, and the first team ended in second position in their pool.  We were faced with tough matches in the  play-offs, but Collegiate was finally placed fourth overall in the tournament.  Of all the PE schools entered, we were the top school by far.

As Celine Gerard, the new first team goalie had a fractured forefinger, Charis Goosen the current U16A goalie was given the opportunity to play for the 1st team, with Ashley Mann replacing Charis in the U16A team.

Charis started the year playing for the U15B polo team and has done exceptionally well to have played for the 1st team on tour.  She has since had the opportunity  to play for the NMMU team in the Alex senior league as well as play more matches for our 1st team in the senior water polo league.

The EL tournament results were as follows:

U16As
Collegiate vs Clarendon Girls High (4-3 won)
Collegiate vs Pearson (5-3 won)
Collegiate vs Alex (12-0 won)

Play-offs
Collegiate vs Stirling (4-5 lost)
Collegiate vs Clarendon (6-7 lost)

1st Team
Collegiate vs Port Rex (9-3 won)
Collegiate vs DSG (3-6 lost)
Collegiate vs Hudson Park (5-1 won)

Play-offs
Collegiate vs Stirling (4-12 lost)
Collegiate vs Clarendon (4-6 lost)

A special thank you to Mrs Gerard and Mrs Billson for assisting with transport to East London and for being so supportive, flexible and helpful.  Thank you to the parents who made the effort to come along to support our girls:  Mr and Mrs Momberg, Mrs Fish and, for the last time to support our first team, even though Jani was not part of the touring team,  Mr and Mrs Landman.

LOST PROPERTY

Yet again, there are a number of items of lost property:

3 lunch containers; 4 pencil cases (with all pens, pencils, etc.)

2 kitbags; 4 navy jerseys; 1 matric jersey; 1 scarf; a pair of Hi-Tec takkies; 2 phys ed shirts; 2 other T-shirts (Retro Sport & Navy with Gr 10 names on back); 2 brand new Collegiate jackets; 1 navy tie; 1 large black skirt; 2 pairs track suit pants; 1 long-sleeved Collegiate T-Shirt. (All may be collected from Mrs Abrey’s office by Friday 5 November.) Apart from these, there are many marked items which will be returned via the class teacher.

PLEASE buy a laundry marker and get your daughters to use the GIVEN label to write their names on all items of school clothing.

Lost property is normally kept in the front office for a week, then sorted by the Prefects and kept for another week. It is then donated to College Girl to be sold as second-hand clothing. It is unacceptable how much money is wasted by the girls not claiming their lost property.

ENVIRONMENTAL SOCIETY COMMITTEE 2011

Congratulations to the following girls who have been elected to the Environmental Society Committee for 2011:

Chairperson: Andrea Trollip (D2)
Vice Chairperson: Khanya Selana (D2)
Treasurer: Trudi van Olm (D3)
Recycling Project Manager: Khanyisa Gongqa (D2)

Thank you to the 2010 committee and members for their hard work and dedication throughout this year. The club will hopefully be awarded its first Eco-School’s bronze certificate later this year.

SACEE LANGUAGE CHALLENGE

The Language Challenges were started in 1991 by the Eastern Cape branch of the South African Council for English Education as an initiative to provide an English Language benchmarking service to schools. Over the past 20 years the Challenge has been expanded into a national initiative serving schools in all nine provinces of South Africa. Each year all pupils in Grades 8 to 12 at Collegiate write the SACEE Language Challenge and this year we congratulate the following girls on their outstanding achievements:

  • In Grade 8, Kelly Hoggons (A1) attained 93% and was placed first in the country, while Saadiyah Mayet (A3) was placed joint second with 91%.
  • In Grade 10, Lauren Dixon-Paver (C5) attained 86% and was placed joint third.

It is also pleasing to note that Collegiate’s average mark in each grade is above that of the national average.
