Equestrian Awards Criteria

Even after all the criteria specified below have been met, it is still up to the discretion of the Awards Committee to decide if enough talent, participation and sportsmanship has been shown to an outstanding degree.

In order to qualify to be selected for colours of any sort the following initial criteria have must be met:

  1. A rider must compete in at least 2 classes at each show.
  2. Any “No show” in SANESA or SAEF results will disqualify the rider from all colours and awards. The rider must be scratched. The necessary notification must be given to someone at the show.
  3. Any application /motivation for colours and awards must be submitted to Mrs Allen (Equestrian teacher-in-charge) for consideration by the Awards Committee.

 

NATIONALS – defined as SANESA Nationals; SA Pony Rider, Junior or Young Riders National Championships; or other SAEF National recognised events (SA Derby; SA Horse of the Year; Stahl Van Dacrean series; Phillip Smith Equitation Trials/Qualifier, etc.)

 

SCROLL AWARD:

Above initial criteria met (point 1 – 3) AND

Attend a minimum of 3 SANESA and/or SAEF sanctioned graded shows per calendar year.

Riders to have participated in a minimum of 2 disciplines, unless eventing.

 

SILVER BAR:

Above initial criteria met (points 1- 4) AND those criteria in the SCROLL award AND the minimum levels below are attained AND

Pony Rider/Junior/Young Rider selected as an EP/Eastern Cape A team representative in their respective Nationals in a Graded discipline.

A rider in grade 8 or 9 who achieves a Colours standard of riding AND/OR a Grade 10-12 rider who would have qualified for COLOURS (as stipulated in section C) and was unable to compete at Nationals (for reason mentioned below) the rider will be awarded a SILVER BAR.

Reasons for non-participating at Nationals which have to be substantiated with a Vet certificate are: lameness, illness or death of horse.

The following disciplines qualify as the minimum level for SILVER BAR, if placed in top third of Championship class at Nationals.

A re-qualification for a Blazer in a subsequent year will be signified by the awarding of Ivy Leaves.
