HOSTEL FEES 2012

The Hostel Committee (as ratified by the Governing Body at the School’s Annual General Meeting held on 08 November 2011) has agreed upon the following fees for 2012:

For all learners : R 7 900 per term ( R 31 600 per annum). This is an increase of  9.78 %.   We are offering a 10 % discount on the fees should the annual amount be paid before 28 February 2012. This one off payment would be R 28 440.

The bulk of the 2012 budget goes towards covering food, salaries and facility maintenance.  We provide salaries for all the matrons, our driver, and also for five of the nine support staff. Food, of course, is a constantly rising cost and that trend is likely to continue. A further large amount also always goes to ongoing hostel repairs and maintenance. This year, for instance, the new water boiler has cost us in excess of R250 000. This has been paid out of the hostels reserves. The upgrade was necessary to continually ensure that your daughters enjoy the best facilities that we are able to offer.  During the planning process adequate provision has been made to ensure that funds are allocated to topping up the hostel’s reserves, which as indicated above cover for unforeseen expenditure. Consideration has also been given to hosting of guests during the holidays which could further assist with improving the hostel’s reserves.

Fees are payable when the boarders register on the day before the start of the new school term. Hostel fees must be paid separately from school fees. Only fee paying learners may reside in the hostel. It is for this reason that the Governing Body reserves the right to transfer a portion of the hostel fee payment to the school fee account to cover school fees that are in arrears.  Parents will be informed if this is done thus bringing their school fees up to date. Learners whose hostel fees are in then in arrears will NOT be admitted back into the hostel at the start of a new term.

Furthermore, please note that all girls must be back in the hostel by 17:00 on the day before School opens and that proof of fee payment has to be supplied on arrival. If a girl is to arrive late, prior arrangements must be made with the Superintendent and the Bursar. The matrons have been instructed not to accept any girls to the hostel after this time, unless otherwise informed.

A full term’s written notice or payment in lieu of notice is required.

Grade 12s are expected to occupy their place for the full year and to pay the full year’s fees. No Grade 12 may leave the hostel prior to the end of the 4th term.

Please note that, within reason, we do provide transport for your daughters to attend appointments and non school extra mural events. However please note that from 2012 Collegiate will be individually invoicing for this service. Our hostel transport costs are currently way over budget and the above invoicing seems to be a fair way in dealing with transport requirements for largely private matters.

All transport for all school matters, be they sports matches, buying of material for Technology and attending organized cultural activities is budgeted for and as such there will be no need for invoicing of these costs.

With kind regards

Barbara Symons, Superintendent

Melita Bagshaw, Principal
