Collegia Trust & Legacy 2024 Project
THE COLLEGIA TRUST
Collegiate is a beautiful school that offers a world class education. It is ranked, based on the 2018 Matric results, in the top ten government-funded schools in the country. This standard of excellence is one we strive to maintain through keeping our facilities and grounds in pristine condition, developing specialised academic, performing arts and sports facilities, providing bursaries and scholarships to talented and deserving girls who otherwise would not be able to attend Collegiate, and ensuring that our teachers are of the best. All this requires funding far in excess of what the government is able to provide in a country with great educational infra-structure challenges.
The Department of Education funds only 26 of the 94 academic, administrative and maintenance staff and contributes approximately R100 000 per annum towards the running costs of the school. This is hopelessly inadequate and the school has to rely on school fees to fund the remainder of the annual budget which is in excess of R20 million rand. However, any further increase in school fees well beyond the inflation rate would place an unrealistic financial burden on many parents and would cause defaulters to grow.
The Collegia Trust exists to secure additional revenue and investments that will help fund projects to ensure that Collegiate continues to provide excellent educational opportunities for generations to come.
The Collegia Trust is a registered charitable trust, a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) Registered No. 930054469. Donations made into the trust are eligible for a tax deduction of up to 10% of the donor’s annual taxable income, in accordance with Section 18A of the Income Tax Act. A Section 18A tax certificate will be issued on request to South African donors.
2024 LEGACY PROJECT
The Legacy Project 2024 was launched in the 140th year (2014) and aims to have sufficient funds contributing to all the five pillars of ACADEMIC, FACILITIES, SPORT, PERFORMING ARTS, COMMUNITY (bursaries) by 2024. The first project, the restructuring of the library into a modern day resource centre, has been completed and the facility opened in February 2017.
The five pillars have been simplified to three in 2019, with FACILITIES and COMMUNITY (bursaries) being contained in all three:
- ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT
- PERFORMING ARTS DEVELOPMENT
- SPORTS DEVELOPMENT
Donors may state for which pillar their contribution is to be utilized.
Donations may be made via eft, direct deposit or debit order.
HONOURING THE MEMORY OF PAM ELLIS – 2019 REUNION GROUPS
Members of all the Reunion groups of 2019 are encouraged to donate to the School’s Collegia Trust Legacy 2024 Project, in the late Miss Pam Ellis’s honour. Your contributions will help fund your choice of academic or performing arts development (scholarships and facilities), both initiatives close to Miss Ellis’s heart.
Below is the draft ground floor plan of the proposed Music Centre. This will be situated behind the Gym Hall, between the tennis courts and squash courts. It will provide rehearsal rooms for the bands, choir and various ensembles, as well as individual and class teaching rooms. It will also be built in such a way that a second floor auditorium can be added in a second phase.
