STEAM WEEK

The Standard Bank STEAM WEEK commenced on Monday in Assembly when Mr Ross Kelly from Derivco presented on the Future of Technology. He spoke about Failing Forward, the limitations of AI without the human touch of using AI effectively, the fast-paced change and the important role that women can play in the technology space. STEAM WEEK is providing much information about the worlds where the Sciences and the Arts intersect in innovative options for future employment. At the heart of the week is the message of creativity as the key to unlocking potential for employment in the future.

SPORT

The past week, many of our Collegiate sport players participate in various events. The Artistic Swimmers competed in the Eastern Cape Schools Synchro Challenge where Rachel Taylor and Shanna du Plessis won first place in the Level 3 15 and over Figures – and Level 2 15 and over Figures categories respectively. The Tennis players reached the Semi-Finals of the Annual Selborne-Clarendon Mixed Doubles Tournament which they lost to Stirling High School, but were placed fourth overall. The Netball and Hockey seasons have started with the usual fervour associated with our Winter Sports. Most of the Netball Teams were successful in winning their matches at the Despatch Skommeltoernooi. The U/14A Netball Team won all three their matches by significant margins 14-4, 10-5 and 10-2. Hockey players aspiring to play for Eastern Province are pitting it out in Trials for various teams and all information regarding the results are uploaded onto the SOCS App. The Collegiate Cricket teams are enjoying a good innings this season. The First and Second teams outran Westering despite the First Team losing to Pearson and New Brighton Hub in other games. Despite the two setbacks, the First Team Cricket won against Alexander Road High School by 209 runs with Jeanne Steyn taking four wickets for six runs off 3.4 overs.
