NETBALL
We are very proud of Amy Botha (Captain), Amy-Jade Saayman (Vice Captain) and Lilian Krige who reached their 50 first team caps for the first team netball at the St Andrews Netball Festival. Thereafter, Hailie Jade Coboza reached her 50th cap for our 1st Netball Team on April.
At the end of term 1, the 1st team travelled to Paarl to play in the Paarl Girls’ High Netball Festival. The team competed against extremely tough competition under very tough conditions. Throughout the duration of the festival, the courts were very wet as it was constantly raining. The highlight of the festival was only losing to Oranje by 9 goals. This is a huge improvement from the cricket scores we were receiving last year. For those who don’t know, last year the 1st team lost by about 30-40 goals.
During the holidays, the 1st team travelled up to Johannesburg to participate in the St Andrews Netball Festival. Once again, it poured with rain so after the first day of matches, the festival was moved indoors. The team won 5 out of 7 pool games which allowed them to advance to the top 8 championship section of the tournament. They then played another 6 games in the championship section.
The 1st team put up a good fight against the reigning champions, Redhill, but unfortunately lost 25-30. This was the closest score that Redhill, the team who won the tournament, had against any other school in this tournament. We then drew 23 all to St Dunstans, who was the other team that played in the final. We lost to Kingswood but beat St Stithians, St Dominics and St Marys Waverly.
The 1st team ended up placing 5th out of 32 teams.
A huge congratulations goes to Amy-Jade Saayman who was announced 1 of 10 players selected for the tournament team.
A huge thank you to Mrs Grobbelaar, Miss Marx and Mrs Krige for accompanying us on this tournament.
During the holidays, our U16A and U14A netball teams travelled up to Paarl to compete in the Paarl Gimnasium Netball Tournament. The girls faced extremely tough competition and played with absolute gut and determination. Well done girls on your efforts. We are extremely proud of you.
Thank you to all the coaches and teachers who accompanied the two teams to Paarl.
INTERNATIONAL PARTICLE PHYSICS MASTERCLASS
During the holiday, some of our senior learners actively engaged in academic enrichment by participating in the International Particle Physics Masterclass, hosted by Nelson Mandela University. This experience not only expanded their knowledge but also provided them with the opportunity to collaborate with learners from around the world.
LITERARY WEEK
As part of literary week , artist and owner of ‘Art on Main' Cedric Vanderlinden, came to share tips on the secrets of unforgettable storytelling through animation with the Art Enrichment girls. The girls thoroughly enjoyed learning from a master animator. Some of the Grade Ten learners had the heartwarming opportunity to read story books to Collegiate Junior Grade One learners as part of literary week . The room was filled with laughter, smiles, curiosity and connection as the Grade Tens shared their love of reading with their little ‘sisters’. It was a beautiful time of mentorship and bonding, showing the power of storytelling to bring generations together. It was an absolute pleasure to have Old Girl, Simran Juglal present to the eager writers of Collegiate on 'The Art of Short Story Writing: Ghost Stories' creative writing workshop. Simran, a PhD candidate and writer put everyone at ease as laughter and insightful comments filled the Resource Centre.
DEBATING
We are very proud of our senior debating team who participated in the final of the senior NMB Debating League. A narrow loss did not detract from their powerful debating skills in a tough debate on free trade. Congratulations Caitlin Van Heerden, Dion Duri and Noni Goliath.
DIRECTOR GENERAL ADDRESS TO GRADE TWELVES
On Thursday, 17 April 2025, the Director General of the National Department of Basic Education, Mr H M Mweli, addressed the Grade Twelves of Collegiate Girls’ High School and Andrew Rabie High School at Andrew Rabie High School in Perridgevale. We would like to express our appreciation to the principal, staff and learners for their hospitality. Mr Mweli shared five nuggets of advice with the learners:
1. Come to school every day. School attendance means you are there to first hand to learn the work. Your exam paper will look like the days you missed if you are not at school every day.
2. Listen to your teacher. Take in the information in every lesson.
3. The warmer the blanket, the colder the future. Therefore, you must spend time wisely with six hours being dedicated to two subjects a day. Spend one hour reading and writing notes, then spend two hours working on past papers.
4. Use the material at your disposal to study every day. Make your own notes. Use textbooks, past papers, study guides, handouts, digital material and videos.
5. Be your sister’s keeper. Take care of one another, support one another, teach one another and learn from one another.
Mr Mweli called to the stage learners from Collegiate to congratulate them on attaining over 90% at the end of their Grade Eleven year: Mikayla Edwards, Amy Botha, Shanna du Plessis, Jennifer Friskin, Maria Freercks.
