POETRY EVENING
One is truly fortunate if one is impacted by the beauty of poetry during one's high school career. And this was certainly evident at the annual poetry evening. Like-minded individuals gathered in the Resource Centre to share a little of their souls. We thank Isabella Hendricks for being a vibrant MC. We also thank Mr Batista for being the guest speaker. His depth of insight, humour and ease in front of an audience make him unforgettable. This poetry evening was certainly very special, indeed.

SACEE (SOUTH AFRICAN COUNCIL FOR ENGLISH EDUCATION) PUBLIC SPEAKING CHALLENGE
We are thrilled to announce that Aisha Mxokezeli and Holly Tudhope participated in the SACEE (South African Council for English Education) Public Speaking Challenge and have qualified to participate in the final round. They presented prepared and impromptu speeches. Well done to Aisha and Holly for performing well under pressure!
ASPIRE PROGRAME
Our Aspire to Thrive program has included many guest speakers and opportunities for our learners.
Our learners have received bookmarks that remind them to aspire to thrive daily, and have written in their GLAD journals. Learners have also recieved seeds to plant, which allows them to watch them grow over the next few months.
Mrs Swanepoel, a guest speaker, addressed our learners about the importance of watering your own garden and focusing on yourself rather than focusing on someone else's life, when you could be watering your own garden. She also talked on the importance of not letting social media take over your life and let it get to you. She was an inspiration for the learners and the teachers.
Dr Delgado was invited to talk to our staff members and some of our learners. Listening to the importance of spinal health was fascinating and he inspired us to 'eat well, think well, and move well'.
Mrs Govender conducted a workshop for the Grade 8s about empathy and action whilst the Grade 9s explored tolerance and respect. Our Grade 8s and 9s have done tug of war activities with a message of resilience. The studying sisterhood offered coffee chats. Eduvos visited some of our learners. Mrs Pederson from the Junior School spoke to our learners to inspire them.
Some of our brave learners rolled up their sleeves and donated blood — making a real difference and helping save lives.
Simemele hosted a session as part of the ASPIRE to THIRVE programme on "Building Power within and with each other". We were lucky to have very inspirational speakers from NMU's CANRAD - Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism and Democracy. The main ideas from the sessions were: Communication and holding space is what creates harmony and makes societies THRIVE. A community has power.
Selected Grade Nine learners spent a day with St James collaborating and learning about team building and leadership.
MUSIC
At the annual SASMT Music competition, our learners excelled in their various instruments. We congratulate the following learners for reaching the final round:
Bronwyn Shone, Piano
Aisha Mxokozeli (2nd place, D2 section) Voice
Avethandwa Goboza (1st place, D1 section) Saxophone
Asemahle Nomnganga (2nd place, D1 section) Saxophone
C of Saxes (1st place, B2/B3 section), Saxophone ensemble.
Musical Moments 2025 was the final concert with our Grade 12 musicians. We celebrated their service and commitment to our Music department as members of the Choir, Vocal Ensemble, String Ensemble, Claribelles, C of Saxes and Concert Band. This was followed by Fairytale Follies, a beautiful celebration of musical theatre directed Mrs Hemmingway.
We congratulate the Collegiate Music Department for the success of our musicians, whose skills were adjudicated at the biennial Pearson Praeludium from 4 to 11 August. With more than 2500 learners from various schools playing in multiple categories, the Girls of the College struck the right chord. Collegiate is privileged to offer young musicians the opportunity to learn piano, percussion and various woodwind, brass and string instruments. In addition, the Music Department teaches voice as an instrument, and many singers are actively involved in revues, musicals, and Trinity of London examinations.
Mrs Range accompanied most items for which Collegiate received 28 Diplomas (Double Gold), 27 Gold, 3 Silver and 6 Bronze Awards. Evidence of the Collegiate team spirit is in the success of the Ensemble categories in which the C of Saxes, Claribelles, Choir and Band all received Diplomas in their respective categories. The Collegiate Music Department, under the guidance of Mrs Agenbag, keeps hitting the right note. We are grateful to Miss Potgieter who assisted and all the Music staff for the ongoing endeavours to sustain music.
SUBJECT FAIR
The Grade Eleven learners prepared displays and held the annual Subject Fair in the hall today for the Grade Nines. With qr codes, prizes for subject quizzes, information and advice galore: we could not be prouder of our Grade Elevens.
