Academic Achievements
We hosted the Algoa CMC Academic Performance Celebrations alongside the Department of Education. The Education Department recognized all the principals in the Algoa CMC for their hard work and dedication to educating the youth. Mrs Erasmus accepted the award for our 100% pass rate and 99.2% bachelor passes. She said: "This is for the hard work of our girls and the passion of our staff".
We recently attended the Department of Education District Awards recognising excellence in the National Senior Certificate examinations. We were awarded for our excellent marks in Geography, Life Orientation, Mathematics, Computer Application Technology, Consumer Studies and English Home Language, and were also recognized for being the only school in the district to attain a 100% pass rate for five consecutive years. Collegiate was also honoured with a Premier Award this year because our school attained the highest Bachelor pass rate of 99.3%. Well done to our Principal, Mrs Louise Erasmus, Subject Heads, Subject Teachers and the wonderful Class of 2025. We might have collected the awards, but these awards belong to every parent, learner, staff member and greater community. In addition, we congratulate our fellow schools for their achievements and awards.
Rowing
Our talented girls recently competed at the prestigious Buffalo Regatta in East London, South Africa’s oldest and second-largest rowing event, attracting over 23 schools and 18 clubs from across the country.
Katherine Allen made us proud by finishing second in the U15 women’s single sculls finals—an incredible achievement! Eryn du Plessis, teamed up with Katherine in the doubles and they clinched victory in a tough final.
The next rowing event is the South African School Championships in Roodeplaat from 5 – 8 March.
Queen Mary House Day
We celebrated the academic achievements of our girls at Queen Mary House Day! It was an absolute honour to have the incredible Lee Duru from Algoa FM join us as our guest speaker. Her words were nothing short of inspiring, leaving our girls feeling empowered and motivated.
Lee shared a profound message, likening children to arrows, parents and teachers to the archers who guide and support them. Because an arrow must be held steady, there will be pull back, and you must aim, then, you can fly.
Soon, the girls will become their own archers, and we hope they hit bullseye in life. Lee, certainly did today.
Tennis
Grey and Collegiate traveled to East London to take part in the Selbourne/Clarendon mixed double tournament.
After winning against Pearson, they were scheduled to play Stirling in the finals. Unfortunately, we were rained out.
The results for the weekend were as follows:
Vs St Andrews/DSG lost 8-10
Vs Nico Malan won 13-5
Vs Selbourne/Clarendon won 12-6
Vs Pearson won 9-5
A long-standing Valentine’s Day tradition continued on Wednesday as brother and sister schools, Grey High School and CGHS, came together for a special mixed doubles tennis afternoon.
Boys and girls teamed up on court, dressed in their Valentine’s best, with cupcakes, balloons and plenty of laughter adding to the spirit of the day. It was more than just good tennis. It was about friendship, connection and celebrating a partnership that has grown over many years.
A special thank you to Mikah van Niekerk for bringing his camera along and capturing the moments, while still stepping onto court himself. Your contribution behind and in front of the lens is truly appreciated.
Our Grey High tennis sides, together with Collegiate Girls’ High, are currently in East London competing in the Selborne and Clarendon Girls Mixed Doubles Tournament hosted by Selborne College and Clarendon Girls’ High School. We wish them all the very best as they represent our schools with pride.

The first team lost against Pearson by 8 wickets.
The second team beat DF’s first team by 10 runs.
Community Service
Facta Non Verba, deeds not words, is not just a statement, but the way we encourage our girls to live on a daily basis. Today, our girls donated blood with the incredible staff of SANBS in our beloved school hall. One donation, saves three lives. We encourage our Collegiate community to go to their nearest blood bank to donate. We are profoundly proud of our youngsters, setting the example.

Trilingual Speech Competition
On Monday 16 February, the annual Trilingual Speech Competition took place in the Stevenson Hall. The three adjudicators were Mr Neil Anderson from VP for English, Ms Jani Gerber from Pearson for Afrikaans and Ms Pamela Ndovela from our own Geography department for Xhosa.
The junior selection was depleted by illness, however, brave speakers stood up and did their best.
The junior winners were:
isiXhosa – Elethu Mangcaka on the topic: Umbelelo
Afrikaans – Mika Ramnath on the topic: Dankbaarheid
English – Harshita Kaswa on the topic: Gratitude
The senior competition was fierce and some mature and thought-provoking speeches were delivered. As there could only be one winner, the judges’ decisions were final.
The senior winners were:
isiXhosa – Sanelisiwe Mbabana on the topic: Ikamva
Afrikaans – Mirelle Koen on the topic: Maar hoekom?
English – Olivia Freercks on the topic: But why?
This tradition is one that we hope will endure for many years as seeing the talent the girls have for public speaking is always a privilege.
Debating
In one of the League fixtures, the first senior team debated the motion: “THBT social media has been beneficial for human communication” as opposition. We won, and Nonhle Goliath was awarded best speaker. Some of our juniors also attended a beginners’ workshop at the same time which taught them the ins and outs of how debating works.
